How Much Does Curbing Cost?

One of the first questions that people ask is; “how much do you charge per foot?”  Well, the answer to that question is normally, “Do you know how much footage you have?”

Even though most curbing companies will come out and give you a free estimate, you still should know an approximate footage that you have before you call, so you can tell if you’ve received a good price.

But how do I do that?

HoseGo get your garden hose.  Your average garden hose at home is usually 25 feet.  Lay it out in the design of your garden bed or in a circle around that tree.  How many times did you have to move it?  Two?  Three?  Well, that tells you approximately how many linear feet you have – more than you thought, huh?  Curbing companies go by the “Linear Foot,” which means that your otherwise straight line – may “curve.”

Most companies work with a minimum, which means that they have to charge you a certain amount – even if you have 25 linear feet, or a thousand; we all must work with a minimum.  Every time they move that trailer or get a crew, it will cost them a certain amount of money.

So, on average (in Central Florida), most companies have a minimum dollar amount to even show up at your house with crew and trailer – let’s say, $450.00 for the sake of this post.  That will get you UP TO their minimum footage (usually 75-100 feet) of curbing.  Anything over that will probably be charged by the linear foot.  However, as I mentioned before, estimates are usually free, so take advantage of a professional in your area.

Now, understand that  all companies are not alike, and prices/minimums may differ.  This is just a “guide” to help you understand the “ball-park” figure, and to know what to expect when hiring a curbing contractor.

It’s better to work with a contractor who has a solid history in Concrete Landscaping Borders.  As in all trades, there is a knowledge and experience necessary to make your curb installation right.  And, our curbing is 4″ x 6″, which is a lot more stable/sturdy that some others out there.  This is a diagram of the most popular “Mower Style” that we offer. It is 4″ x 6″.Mower Style

I also want you to keep in mind that the company has to purchase equipment, tools, trailers, trucks, fuel, uniforms, insurance, concrete, dyes, fiber, employee’s, taxes and so forth.  This is another reason that you should only hire someone who is established in your area.  We can handle the overhead, and do not ask for money in advance (or at least we don’t).  And, we can take all major credit cards, so if you’d like this option, please let us know!

Ask them how long they have been doing business here in Central Florida. Can they show you their actual work, or refer you to another homeowner close by so you can see yourselves?  You want to make sure that you can get help to replace or repair if you need it.   You can’t do that if your selected less experienced contractor is out of business.

10 Money-Saving Tips for Landscaping

10 Money-Saving Tips for Landscaping

Landscaping_Tips_Full_Size

A yard with a beautiful landscape is one of the few home investments with a value that increases over the years. Buyers love mature plants and trees, so giving your yard some love even if you’re not planning on selling for a few years is a smart way to go. What’s even smarter? Employing these money-saving tips:

1. Free mulch.
Many municipalities recycle the yard waste they pick up curbside throughout the year into mulch, which is then made available to residents for free or a very low price. Surrounding your shrubs and trees with a layer of the stuff not only makes them stand out visually, it also helps conserve moisture and stave off bugs.

2. Don’t Buy Screens.

Instead of buying the weed screening to keep weeds from growing, try newspapers under the mulch.  It will last two years, and then it will be time to replace the mulch anyway!

3. Look to the list.
Craigslist’s “farm and garden” section can be a treasure trove of outdoor planters, border stones and even “used” trees and shrubs. Check here first before heading to the nursery.

4. Go big with your neighbors.
Bedding plants are often less expensive when you buy them in bulk.

5. Compost.
Instead of buying bags of fertilizer, generate your own black gold for gardens by composting your kitchen waste. It’s not as hard – or smelly – as you’d think.

6. Chat with a master.
Master gardeners often hold free Q&A sessions at garden centers or local libraries. Before investing in new plants, seeds or shrubs, check with an expert to find which options will thrive without expensive maintenance.

7. Rein it in.
Trim back any trees, shrubs or vines that hide or overwhelm your windows, porch or patio. Sometimes the most effective landscaping upgrade can come from removing greenery, not adding it.

8. Pull your weeds.
It’s the outdoor equivalent of de-cluttering your home, an inexpensive way to boost your yard’s visual appeal.

9. Powerwash fences and patios.
It can take years off your fence and patio in just minutes. You’ll be amazed at how much brighter they’ll look with just a bit of effort that requires little more skill than running a vacuum. Rent a machine at your local home improvement box store for about $30.

10. Add Curb Appeal Concrete Landscaping Borders.

By framing your landscaping, not only will it add “curb appeal” to your home, but it will keep mulch in, and grass out – making it easier to mow, mulch, and edge.

Mosquitoes Ruining Your Evenings? Wow! Wow! Wow!

Automatic Organic Mosquito Control that works!

Sprinkler Magician is a mosquito control system for your entire property – anywhere you have sprinklers. Our affordable and easy to install product lets you take back control of your yard, don’t get chased indoors again!

The patented system is the only irrigation based system that really works. The reason is that all competitors’ systems distribute their (often toxic) mosquito concentrate during the irrigation watering cycle. This results in it getting over diluted and washed onto the ground. Sprinkler Magician runs its own independent cycle, running the irrigation just long enough to deliver the concentrate and so ensuring it dries on plants and all surfaces.

Using Sprinkler Magician means:

You have an organic way of creating a bubble around your property that is safe for you, kids and pets but is extremely unfriendly towards mosquitoes and at least a dozen other targeted pests.

What is Sprinkler Magician?

This is a new approach to pest control that takes back your yard from the biting critters! The Sprinkler Magician system kills and repels biting insects in residential and commercial properties, creating an environment around your property that is extremely unfriendly towards targeted pests. The system handles mosquitoes and other pests where they hide, in plants and lawns – using our potent natural concentrate that has 6 active ingredients.

What Insects & Pests Does It Control?

The liquid concentrate is a completely natural formula, as well as mosquitoes it also handles fleas, ticks, spiders, biting flies, gnats, no-see-ums, Fire Ants, Fruit Flies, Chinch Bugs, Lawn Grubs, Chiggers, Silverfish, Crickets, Mites, Palmetto Bugs, and most other biting insects.

Various other concentrates can be used in the Sprinkler Magician system. Sprinkler Magician is currently developing and testing concentrates that are designed to repel other animals that may be pests in certain areas such as snakes, deer, rabbits and others. For example we are getting extremely good results with an all-natural Deer repellent currently being tested in the New Jersey area.

Rid your yard of Mosquitoes!

Sprinkler Magician organically eliminates mosquitoes and other biting pests from your yard, so you can enjoy your outdoor space again.

Sprinkler Magician Eliminates Mosquitoes

Sprinkler Magician is a patented distribution technology that hooks up directly to your current sprinkler system. Once it is in place, it automatically disperses the 100% organic Mosquito Magician concentrate across your yard at appropriate intervals, killing mosquitoes and other biting pests for up to two weeks.

Sprinkler Magician:

  • Disperses Mosquito Magician after your system’s watering cycle, so the concentrate is not washed away.
  • Is 100& safe for kids and pets, but deadly to biting pests.
  • Actually eliminates pests, rather than just driving them away.

Let’s Talk About Mulch – Good Advice

I was driving down the road today and notice.., not for the first time.., one of our neighbors’ landscaping.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t looking at it admirably, I was looking at it as “yikes.”No Edging Blocks

When you decide to get new mulch for your landscaping beds, please, don’t just load new mulch on top of the old.  You actually need to scrape the old weathered mulch from the beds and replace it with new mulch.  If you don’t, you start creating a “mound effect” which will always spill the mulch out into the yard whenever we get a heavy rain.

When you buy new mulch, they always recommend that you add 2-3″ thick.  That doesn’t mean that you should add 2-3″ on top of existing.  That means that you should scrape the old stuff out – dispose of it, and replace with 2-3″ of new mulch.

Many people don’t think about this, but many of our customers have this vecurb1ry complaint – “My mulch spills into my grass!”  This doesn’t necessarily mean you need borders – but perhaps you need a little maintenance instead.

However, borders are, in my opinion of course, the best way to go!  Contact us today for your Free Estimate for bordering your home and keeping it safer to walk on your sidewalks and driveways.407-957-9208

Meet Scott Bailey – Owner & Operator of Curb Appeal Concrete Landscaping Borders

Baby Bluejay 1

I can trust him! Tweet Tweet!

Animal lover and nature enthusiast!  Here, we were simply enjoying an afternoon one day in our back yard, when we had an unsuspected visitor!  This beautiful little blue jay was too young to think that “humans are bad,” and this baby bird spent about 10 minutes hopping all over Scott!  The moral of this story is that this little bird obviously felt safe with Scott.

And you should too.  Scott has spent over 18 years perfecting his concrete landscaping borders business.  He carefully did research and selected the best machine that would support not only the weight of standard home-owner lawnmowers, but he built a custom made efficient trailer to work out of.

Scott is a real stickler about customer service and his quality of work!  He ensures that the customer is always satisfied with the job they needed, and he performed!  He has worked for both homeowners and major companies alike!

Scott’s background is the hospitality industry, and now-a-days, that’s a rare find!  We receive so many phone calls from people that ask if we “need” the work because they’ve been turned down or disappointed in so many other companies!   The average consumer has a difficult time getting someone to actually do their job. Unbelievable!   In our world, the customer is always the main focus.

We relocated from Orlando to Saint Cloud about 20 years ago to make a life for ourselves, and our family.  This isn’t a secondary job for him, it is his livelihood and his passion.  He can’t afford to get it wrong or make mistakes.  He wants, and is proud of his work and accomplishments!  That is his “drive.”

Scott understands the needs of the average homeowner and helps to design a flowerbed or landscaping project that best suits the individual home.  No house is the same – even if they’re in a cookie-cutter designed community – Scott can frame your landscaping, and make your home stand out!Troweling

His philosophy is built on a handshake.  His word is his bond!  When you consent to a job, he will book the job, buy the materials, hire the crew, show up as scheduled, pour your borders, clean-up and finish as agreed.  You pay after the completion of the job, not before.  He guarantee’s the workmanship and materials.  We have many repeat customers, so I guess you can say that we’re not a love-them-and-leave-them type of company.  We’ve been here through thick and thin.

If you would be interested in Concrete Landscaping Borders around your home, give us a call.  Estimates are free within the Central Florida area!  You can’t beat Curb Appeal Concrete Landscaping Borders – or Scott Bailey!

5 Ways to Improve Curb Appeal

It’s common knowledge that before selling, it’s important to spruce up the outside of the home to give a good first-impression to potential buyers.

Small upgrades to a home’s exterior like adding a fresh coat of paint to a front door, installing new landscaping, and adding a new deck easy are ways to increase a home’s value and add curb appeal.

Tips for Increasing a Home’s Property Value

2015 Remodeling Cost vs. Value: Less Is More

In fact, 2015’s Cost vs Value remodeling survey showed that smaller replacement projects “are the ones that are most obvious to buyers when they first view a house in person or online, such as new door or garage door” and bring the largest payback.

According to the Huffington Post, these five exterior home improvement projects will help owners boost a home’s curb appeal:

  1. Sprucing up the landscaping. A recent study found that a home landscape upgrade can raise a home’s overall value by 10 percent to 12 percent. If deciding what to plant and when to plant it is overwhelming, talk to experts at a local gardening store. For large landscape undertakings, it may be worth it to hire a landscape architect.
  2. Cleaning windows. Have you cleaned the front windows lately? It’s an easy way to make a nice first-impression. Power washing the home’s exterior can also increase curb appeal. While power washing can be done by homeowners, it’s highly suggested to reach out to a professional for help just to be safe.
  3. Upgrading window shutters and the front door. A quick way to turn off potential buyers is an outdated front door. “A dated front door makes a house look cheap, and a worn front door makes a house uncared for or old,” says Huffington Post writer Ashley Wren Collins. The good news is simply upgrading to a steel door is inexpensive and ranks highest on the payback scale, returning 101.8 percent nationally, on average, according to the 2015 Cost vs. Value survey.
  4. Driveway resurfacing. A well maintained smooth driveway is an obvious sign for buyers that a home is taken care of.
  5. Giving the deck a face-lift. According to Wren Collins, “when it comes to showings and open houses, prospective buyers will remember the expansive feel that a wide deck provides.” If the home doesn’t have a deck in the first place, adding a wood deck recoups 80.5 percent of the cost, according to the Cost vs Value survey. Even cleaning and sanding an existing deck will give prospective buyers a good impression of the home.

What’s In Your Yard?

VJ 5The owner already had the pavers, but he called us in to “finish” the look.  Doesn’t it look great?

We completed several hundred feet so far.  Due to this time of year where afternoon thundershowers hit, we started doing ground prep on Thursday, followed up with curb installation on Friday.  Unfortunately, the Friday storms ruined about 7 feet at the end of the run, but because THIS IS OUR PRIMARY BUSINESS, we went back on Saturday, cut out the damaged parts, and replaced them (at no additional fee for the homeowner).  The homeowners were very impressed.  We back our work and guarantee our workmanship (certain conditions apply).

VJ 8Matter of fact, one of his next-door neighbors tried to get the similar job done by a “new” company in the area to save a few bucks; and to be quite frank, they did not install a nice job.  Even though I always hope that Scott gets additional photographs so that I can share the difference of “bad” borders versus “great borders”, it can always get a little tricky.

Many of the other companies in our area have other full-time jobs, and do this after hours to make a few extra bucks.  Not Curb Appeal Concrete Landscaping Borders.  We are full time, and customer satisfaction  is our #1 priority.  We try to keep our overhead low to pass on savings, and don’t spend a lot of money on advertising, so it is very important that our clients are happy with our work.  That’s how we earn most of our business! Word of Mouth.., and what I post here.

You can always take a look at our website to view information so as good borders, bad borders, what to expect, what’s available, and what to look for.  We also give you ball park estimates so you can figure out if Curb Appeal Concrete Landscaping Borders is right for your yard, and how to measure the linear footage with a simply garden hose.  We’re not going to steer you wrong.  If you want “stamping” (pattern on curb), keep going.  We don’t do that, and we explain why on our site.

However, as a homeowner, we believe that you deserve the know and understand what you’re buying.  Please use our site to educate yourself, and decide if Curb Appeal Concrete Landscaping Borders is right for you!  Call us today for YOUR free estimate!

Curbing – Top 3 Things to Look For

Today, we were replacing curbs from some ‘other’ curbing company in St. Cloud.  The unfortunate thing about it was that the owners didn’t know what to look for when it came to curbing.  And, the ‘other’ company obviously installed their curbs before a rain-storm hit, so the curbing was badly pitted.  They should have covered the curbs if a storm were pending, not just leave the job site.

However, the damaged and crumbled curbs were picked up by  Curb Appeal Concrete Landscaping Borders and transported quickly to the landfill!  After-which, new borders were installed – with color!   I should have the complete pictures for this job tomorrow, which I will share with you.

Curb 17 - NOT Curb Appeal

Anyway, what I’m boiling down to is; do you know what to look for?  Here is an example of what you definitely DON’T want with your borders.

This picture was actually taken in 2003 by someone that hired us.  For the record, these are NOT our borders. Notice how uneven and wavy the top is?  This is just “crap installation” here.  Can you see the difference?

curb1

In this second picture, you see straight lines that are easy to mow around.  For the record, these ARE our borders.

You want your borders to “frame” and complement your landscape – not distract from it.  You don’t want “roller-coaster’ curbs – you want straight, smooth and level curbing.  THAT’s how you frame your landscaping.

And, a big plus (know that the rainy season is upon us); concrete landscaping borders keeps the mulch in – and the grass out!

So; when investigating this avenue for your landscaping; think about the following:

  1. How long have they been in business?
  2. Can they provide customer names for references?
  3. Guarantee’s?  Will they come back for repairs?

You wouldn’t believe how many companies fade in and fade out.  We can proudly say that we’ve been doing Concrete Landscaping Borders in this area for 18 years.  Shouldn’t you go with a successfully locally owned and operated company?  This is the only business we have – full time!  That’s us!

Homework:  You as a homeowner should do due diligence to determine if the company you select will be able to perform the job to your satisfaction; are able to complete repairs if needed; have a solid foundation of customer service; and a fair price.  Research this site to give you prices, curb styles, color options, and how to measure.
